My family and I are sheep farmers. I have always loved Greek Mythology and immediately thought of the story of the golden fleece when sketching out my idea of a ram head for this piece. The story of how the epic hero Jason went on a quest to retrieve the fleece from Colchis. This fleece is a symbol of power and achievement that I wanted to show in my piece. On the center of the Ram's head lays an oak tree from the story filled with flowers and gold that symbolizes wealth and growth. The tree is the focal point of the piece that blends into the skull and horns. The body of the sculpture is all clay. I wanted the horns to be lighter than the skull so I played around with wire, papier-mache, and some acrylic washes to make the sculpture have more contrast.
