"The Great Unknown" is a piece done entirely in colored pencil. I got the idea for this drawing because for the past few months, the future of myself and the world around me has been heavy on my mind. The future is a scary idea because no one really knows what it holds. This ties in to the ocean theme of this piece, because similar to the future, the ocean is scary and a lot of it is undiscovered, no one knows about some parts of it. I chose the subject matter of myself falling to depict how we are all inevitably entering the future. It feels like we are all entering a great, unkown place. The hand reaching out represents people's longing to go back to earlier times. I decided to cut off the bottom part of the background, leaving an open space. This represents how the future is unwritten and to be determined. We won't know for sure what it holds until we get there. The beauty of this uncertainty is that although it is scary, it may hold amazing things.
