Once upon a time, a little girl loved stories. She discovered it wasn't the fairies and the dragons she loved, but the rich, incredible history of these tales. The way they preserved thousands of voices and peoples and cultures, and the way that they had a language all their own. I have learned to speak this language, in a way that she never quite could, through my art. I make pieces that mimic the world of fairytales in a way that is at once familiar and wandering, like a child lost to the realm of her reading. I make art in the same vein of thought I learned to live in, among the tales of my upbringing, but expanded with a mature understanding of culture and history. I create detailed pieces in not only form, but in background as well, stitched from the visual language of my childhood and adolescent interests. My work is a love letter to fairytales and folklore, and all these thousands of lives dedicated to their continued existence.
