Throughout my journey in art, one of my biggest weaknesses has been being able to channel emotion through my subjects. For this piece, I wanted to challenge myself and create an artwork that would evoke feelings in the viewer. I looked to German Expressionism as my main inspiration for this piece, as it is a movement full of raw emotion and Gothic imagery. I started by sketching my picture onto a sheet of linoleum, carving it, then printing it onto different colored sheets of paper using different colors of ink. I chose the colors that, in my opinion, were straining to the eye and most represented the stress that I wanted to portray.
