Gentry Atkins

My name is Gentry Atkins. I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade at Moncks Corner Elementary. I love to create art, especially 3D art. I am very passionate about Karate. Currently, I am at the Solid Green Belt Level in Karate. My instructor tells me my hard work and dedication will get me into the Black Belt Club to earn a black strip on my belt. In karate class, I am also leveling up with the Bo Staff. I am very involved in karate. My instructor selected me to be a Uki. This is where I help him with the younger students and become a role model for them. My sister is also starting to teach me how to play the guitar.

My artwork for this competition is called Flower Garden. My art work reminds of when I was younger and used to pick flowers and give to my mom. This always makes my mom smile. First, I did several practice drawings of flowers to help me decide on my final composition. I traced it onto the Color Diffusing Paper with an oil pastel. I used liquid watercolors to add color. It was hard choosing the colors. I had to read the color wheel, to help me make good choices for the colors to mix and blend. That part was hard! My art teacher helped me with those decisions. I really enjoyed watching the colors mix. I am very proud of how it all came together.
