This piece is based on the exploitation of animals, specifically in the fashion industry. Using a motif of red thread and chain, I added intense details that make the viewer and the person wearing this piece uncomfortable. The exploitation of animals in the fashion industry is something that we unfortunately see everyday. I used every day fur ruffs as my fur, sourcing it from multiple thrift stores. This piece contains both genuine and faux fur. I did this to provide emphasis for the red-brown fur facing frontward, which is the genuine piece of fur. I then used etching on metal sheet to help bring my message. I intentionally left an unfinished human heart on a rough cutout so that the person wearing the piece would feel very encased.
