When thinking about the classification of identity, it is often clinical and uncaring of the nuances of gendered experiences, which is why I connect that to the hospital gown. The hospital gown is thin, uncaring, and uncomfortable for everyone. When it is put on you, it makes you a patient, open for examination and scrutiny. I see the hospital gown as society in that way, where my existence is questioned and my identity is a diagnosis. I cut up pink ribbons to sew back together in a hospital gown of forced femininity, while under it is dark bronze metal in organic shapes that are attached to my body. I etched these plates with designs that take inspiration from cells to convey myself at my most natural form. Even under examination, the truth of my queer identity is as natural and as unwavering as the body under the gown.
