I graduated from the College of Charleston in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in studio art and art history. With a concentration in sculpture and a long-time passion for fiber art and art craft, I developed a creative process of knitting braided steel to form three dimensional forms during my time of independent study in my last year of undergraduate school. Opportunities assisting artists like Leigh Magar and Vassiliki Falkehag inspired my pursuit of fusing fiber practices with metal materials.
Currently, I am working out of my studio at Redux Contemporary Art Center selling personal commissions of both fiber-related pieces and large- scale creations knitted with braided steel. Two of my works are showing at the Vendue Art Hotel from November 2015 until April of 2016.
Knitting is stereotypically perceived as feminine or “crafty.” My creations aim to break past that limitation, uniting the idea of craft with fine art, as well as redefining ideologies of feminine art forms.
