I created my self portrait to raise the awareness of the everyday struggles people face daily. The three main struggles I have been through/my parents experienced racism, sexism, and class ism. The first thing most viewers see is the face which represents how we always judge, and stereotype a person off of what we see. As the viewer gets closer to the piece, they can see many images and stories being told throughout the inside of the body. the many images represents struggles that have effected me the most that many people would never know about unless they get to know me (or look at the face only). Its a self portrait because all of the images are my own personal specific struggles, and I am using myself as an example of someone who has to deal with many struggles thrown at them in life.
