Which explores the juxtaposition of a union between an ancient technique and post consumer materials. These bottlenecks were found broken, tossed aside lifetimes ago, when a waterway was a convenient dump. They are flawed with air bubbles, misshapen and show tooling marks, things you never see in a modern equivalent. The wire was collected from dumpsters near demolition sites and comes encased in two layers of plastic that have to be stripped by hand to expose the bare copper. Both materials were discarded as trash, their potential use unconsidered. Joined together with a ancient process called nalebinding (6500 BC), a fiber technique where the entire length of a material is passed through itself to form the links. When finished each piece encompasses elements from three very different times in human history, a visual depiction of how the past always shows up in the future.
