Artist Statement

In this work, it is a tribute to the place that I call home. When I think of home, two common things come to mind, utility poles and banana trees. Though these two entities are in various parts of the world, it reminds me of the moments in my childhood. These are moments that I want to hold on to well after I have passed on into the afterlife. With the use of fabric and thread, I wanted the piece to have a personal and familial quality that I get when I think of these moments.

Artist Biography

Na'ah Gordon

Orlando, FL

Na’ah Moriel Gordon was on born July 4, 1996 in Orlando, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Central Florida. She received her Associates in Studio Arts from Valencia College. Her work explores her religious journey through nostalgic imagery, and she is using appliquéd fabric and thread to communicate her thoughts. Gordon’s work has been exhibited at the University of Central Florida and Valencia College. She was also the recipient of the Congressional Black Caucus Visual Arts Scholarship for the 2017 to 2018 academic year. Gordon currently works as a lab assistant at Valencia College.
