Artist: Anna Carll | Location: Chattanooga, TN
Chattanooga, TN
Carll began her career as an illustrator and graphic designer after receiving her BA from the University of Florida in 1984. Carll quit the graphic design industry in 1999 to become a full-time painter after her first gallery representation with Bender Fine Art became successful.
Carll’s abstract work is based on the concept of erosion and explores the cycle of life through nature. When Carll moved to Chattanooga in 2013, she started exploring Book Arts @ The Open Press and began a love affair with developing a rich book arts practice. The world of book arts lead Carll down the path of adding painted weavings and wall hangings to her body of work. These weavings are about the Magnolia Story—observing and caring for Bella, Carll’s 70 foot magnolia tree. Carll enjoys moving effortlessly between painting, weaving and book arts in her studio daily—each informing the other.
