I am a full-time painter living in a remote area of northeast Alabama called lookout mountain. I paint in fluid acrylic on canvas. I think of myself as a modern cubist, looking for the repeating patterns that occur in nature. I wander the mountains creeks and fields with a small watercolor book and paint pan trying to document the poetry of it. The geometric patterns in color, the punctuation of form against water and sky fascinate me. I see mathematical equations and planes in perspective as an unexpected repetition. I am mesmerized by it and feel compelled to try to communicate these things I see. I think of my paintings almost as music or a dance, the colors are my notes the forms linking them together, a kind of song, I also think of them as a mathematical puzzle, a way to transcribe the planes of the three-dimensional world into a flat picture plane. mostly I think of them as a mission, to share the beauty and magic of the natural world.
