Karen Graffeo is an active multi-media artist in photography,
performance and installation. She directed the photography program
at the University of Montevallo. She is the recipient of a Tanne
Foundation award in 2014 and was awarded a Fulbright Senior
Scholar appointment to Romania. In 2005 she was named University
Scholar for her work in Roma communities and refugee
encampments. Her work has been published in Aperture Magazine
and is currently on display at the Museum of African History in
Havana Cuba. She writes "my art is cultural diplomacy devoted to
trust and intersectionality. My documentary projects within the
socio/political world communicate a common thread of devotion to
anima: the soul and strength of the feminine. Indeed, anima is the
transformative voice of reason to heal a world out of balance. Within
multiple cultures I have witnessed that a reverence for the feminine is
the primary measure of strength and endurance."
