I have 10 umbrellas. Sometimes my work is grouped differently in installations, I borrow from one body of work and include it in another installation to give it a different meaning. For instance, for this body of work I envisioned a dark theme with several umbrellas and broken bottle necks on chains (instead of crystal raindrops) that represent a song by Gillian Welch entitled "Caleb Myers". Caleb Myers threw his whiskey bottle down and was raping a young woman when she grabbed a broken bottle and killed him. My current work is about sexual predators that prey on those too young to consent and justice. As a victim of predators, I understand the feelings of shame, confusion and low self esteem. My sculptures empower and visually expose those feelings that victims have for the rest of their lives. I feel that my work is a visual advocate for victims that may feel vulnerable telling their own story.
