Originally from the border of England and Scotland, my work has centered on an interest in regional history, initially through an extended series of color portraits from the east coast of Scotland. Since moving to South Carolina in 1985, I have been making a body of photography relating to the textile industry, blending visual imagery with text, and producing large panels that have given a voice to the overlooked working person. In the past 5 years I have been photographing in some of the marble quarries of Portugal, and printing the results directly onto 19thC geology textbook paper. I was a photography instructor at Winthrop University (1985-2017), the recipient of many awards over the years (SC Visual Arts Fellowship 2004), and have work in corporate and private collections in the United States, England, and Scotland.
