After earning her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, Mary Hoffman focused primarily on portraits and the figure. In 2005, the artist discovered painting ìen plein air" (a French term for painting out in the open air) and began creating stunning landscapes that capture the atmosphere of the world all around.
Light is an important element in Hoffman's paintings. In her work, Hoffman aims to ìshow the viewer that the things usually taken for granted are really worth a second look.î
Today, Mary enjoys combining her love of portraits and figurative work with painting Plein Air landscapes. She travels painting and teaching workshops and participating in Plein Air paint-outs all over the Eastern United States. Mary resides with her husband and two children in South Carolina.
