In 1982 between undergraduate and graduate degrees, my Professors Ed Reep and Paul Hartley of East Carolina University wanted me to spend a year studying the work of the Impressionist and Post Impressionist in the Museums in New York City. I did so. And was so inspired by what I learned that I have continued to paint in the open air since. Sometimes I paint in my studio but will always carry my paintings outside to view it in the sunlight. My open air paintings are always in oils on either canvas or board.
Currently, I am working on a series called, "Island life on the Saluda," which I am painting various views of the shoals and nature in the park at Ware Shoals, SC.
