Njeri Kinuthia was born and raised in rural Kenya. She moved to the U.S. in 2021 to pursue her MFA on the Provost's Fellowship Award. She uses self-portraiture to explore themes of oppression and suppression of women, perpetuated by cultural norms. Her work also seeks to empower women and encourage them to take their positions. She incorporates Kenyan fabrics called 'lesos' to represent her culture while examining unsettling cultural practices. Njeri is currently developing large-scale textile installations. Her artistic merit has been recognized most recently with the 2023 …clat Law Prize and the 2023 United Arts Public Art Award. She has had several shows, including an ongoing solo exhibition at Snap Gallery in Orlando and a past exhibition in Norway. She was recognized as the Outstanding Artist at the Platform Showcase hosted by the Orlando Museum of Art. Njeri is also an aspiring educator currently working at the University of Central Florida.
