Leslie Drennan is a sculptor and visual artist from the American South using a materials-first approach. In both her mixed media sculptures, as well as her more narrative 2D works, she explores how the complicated cycle of life, death, and rebirth can be represented through fragile, impermanent object making. As a Georgia native and lifelong resident, she has observed the change happening around her home state and has found that her role as a new mother has deepened her connection with the woods and wildlife of the South. She often fuses the fleeting details of her life with the larger story of environmental change happening at a global scale. In response to the shifting relationship humans have to the planet, Drennan creates work that bargains with the future by using found materials, waste products, and environmentally neutral methods. She is currently completing an MFA in sculpture at Georgia State University.
