I have always been drawn to textiles. It's what lead me to a 44-year career in the garment industry merchandising, marketing and selling kids products. Textile art fascinates me and during my working years I dabbled with quilting and weaving. When I retired, I knew I wanted to delve into quilting, not traditional quilt patterns and functional pieces, but quilting as an artform.
I create improvisationally using a rotary cutter as my brush and fabric as my paint. Once the composition is laid out on my design wall, I engineer the construction so it can be pieced and sewn together. I use commercially available fabrics and do not use patterns or rulers in my work. Everything is machine pieced and quilted on a domestic sewing maching. Quilting, the process of stitching the back, batting, and quilt top together is the last step which adds another element of texture and design. I'm drawn to color and abstract shapes and always working to refine my creative voice.
