This work was created following the death of my last childhood dog, the end of my first relationship, and the depleting health of my grandparents. Within this precessional of endings, I fixated on nostalgia in a search for solace. I aimed to study this innocence that I can barely remember or describe, I wanted to capture the feeling that was absolute safety and oblivion. I've been terrified of endings since I could comprehend the idea of it. Nana's shaky hands, white surrounding the dog's eyes, miscommunication. The title of this work is shared with a greater body of work I've created following the same visual and emotional themes. While creating this work, I've been brought closer to this little version of myself that loved deeply without fear, oblivious to the concept of impermanence. I see more of her in me everyday as I attempt to savor what I have instead of hoard and obsess over it. I'm learning to love with ease and process loss as it comes, the way I did before I knew my dogs would die.
