Heidi Mortensen works across sculpture and installation to investigate displacement, loss, connection, and memory. Drawing from personal history and often incorporating artifacts salvaged from a fire that destroyed her family's house, her work examines the precariousness of the places we call home and delves into our reliance on the mutable realm of remembering.

Her detailed work involves casting in glass, metal, resin, and plaster, incorporating wood, thread, fabric, ash, and salvaged personal objects. She often combines enduring and ephemeral materials to create pieces that mirror the fragility and persistence of memory itself.

Fragments, distorted recollections, and a sense of being unmoored pervade her practice. Using the figure, elements of nature, and objects associated with a home, Mortensen explores the intertwining of body, place, and memory in our understanding of ourselves, delving into our bodily experience of loss, remembering, and the desire for connection.
