I created "Blast in Detail" as a way to envision how zentangles may be represented in three dimensions. The challenge of doing zentangles appeals to me because of the level of detail involved in designing very small patterns and placing them within a very large outline. The largest patterns in the piece were inspired by the blasts you see in cartoons and comic books as explosions: I sought to break out from smaller drawings I've done to larger forms I've only begun to use. To contrast with the blast patterns, near the bottom of the piece I used different weaving techniques that help me practice keeping other patterns in symmetry and order. I love the challenges that come with trying to control my materials in a small space, but I had a "blast" with this project because I was able to expand the size and scope of what I've done in previous zentangle works.
