This piece was inspired by a tree in Greenville, SC. The tree was huge and had crazy root systems, the canopy was really beautiful, and I was deeply in awe. People had scratched names and initials into the trunk, and when I looked at it, I felt so deeply rooted by its presence that I immediately wanted to paint it. This tree is such a vital part of the community there that I just wanted to capture its huge influence on me and on the whole of Greenville. Nature is just so powerful, and I really wanted this painting to portray that powerful feeling it gives us.
