As a little girl, I watched my father dabble in many different things. He loved to write inspirational messages, read books, and listen to music. On the other hand, I loved to draw. I always drew pictures of him and he was the first face that I ever actually drew. My dad kept every single drawing I created, no matter how bad it was. I started painting three months before he died, and I never got the chance to paint him. In his honor and memory, I painted this portrait of us from when I was a baby. My mom said the song "Isn’t She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder was playing in the background when she snapped the photograph of us. He always looked at his daughter with such love and admiration in his eyes. Now that look only remains in my memory. I’ll never forget it, but just to be sure, I captured it on canvas so it never fades away.
