“Pictures and Frames” depicts my bedroom during the early mornings of summer 2021. That summer, I created a ritual of waking up at 8:00AM and making coffee, compared to past summers where I ended up sleeping the entire day away. I would watch the sunlight fill my room while I comfortably got started on my tasks. It was a quiet time I had all to myself, which I expressed through the dreamy and subdued purples and pinks. I really cherish the little comforts that can be found in everyday life, something that makes you excited for what tomorrow holds. I also enjoy using my room as a scrapbook, to surround myself with memories and inspiration. There’s a history to every picture and intricacy on the wall, the journal opened on the desk, and my cat can even be seen taking a nap on the edge of the painting. I don’t think there’s any part of me that I haven’t expressed in this piece, even if it’s not obvious at times. In other words, it’s a self portrait and a time capsule wrapped into one.
