Those who struggle with mental health often isolate themselves from the rest of the world, as a result of coping with negative thoughts and emotions. This artwork was created by the inspiration of David Kushner’s song, “Daylight." His song persuaded me to find a way to create the lonely feeling of defeat and agony caused by low self esteem and poor mental health. I drew a man standing in a dark room peeking through blinds, looking at the outside world while avoiding human interaction. I gave him a slightly distraught face, as he is representing the feeling and action of mentally struggling alone. I used colored pencil to express depth and values of the lighting and shadows in the piece. I also added various shades of color in the skin and background to dramatize the shift from bright to dark caused by the outside light slipping inside through the blinds.
