I've always been interested in anatomy and surrealism. Realistic features of unconventional objects, distorted faces, the inside of organs depicted as landscapes and so on. With this piece, I pushed myself to create something similar. Using myself as a reference, a hand holding an anatomically correct human heart adorned with a human eye. To contrast the hand’s gentle grasp, I wrapped both figures in rope. I wanted to express the vast differences between the components. The hand is smooth and white, symbolizing purity, innocence and safety. It holds onto a rough, dark heart. This conveys a negative feeling, as if this figure is danger. The eye on the front gives the heart a life of its own, showing that it's own being, no longer keeping a person alive, but living a life of its own. The rope signifies the innocent person’s attachment to danger, no matter how much it tries, it has been tied to the heart, the lie, and cannot escape. The hand is forever bound to the heart weighing it down.
