The kingfisher is a brightly-colored, medium-sized bird species found in several tropical regions such as Africa, Asia, and Oceania. These mighty fliers can be found in deep forests near calm ponds and small rivers; famously known to be phenomenal divers and snaring the fish as their prey. However, seeing them eating other things such as crustaceans and amphibians isn't too far off. - This artwork was a challenging, yet rewarding journey to curate this beautiful creature and see the end product of my labor. Colored pencils aren't exactly your friend when mixing colors, and this piece, in particular, showed it to be just that. Most of my works are not as flashy and eye-catching, so this was quite a fun change of pace. The hard part was definitely when colors blended and I needed a good in-between to fill that gap.
