Hallowed Ground is a ceramic sculpture that explores the dichotomy between ethereality and physicality, drama, and our environment's impact on identity. The sculpture weighs more than 100 lbs, and much of the weight is suspended in midair. The suspension of weight in combination with the piece's surface quality makes the form feel ethereal. At the same time, the sculpture is decidedly physical - it occupies considerable space and is very much a sculpture in the round. The surface texture and glaze are reminiscent of eroded rock, water, smoke, dead plants in the winter, and fungi. The integration of natural imagery with the identity crisis insinuated by the repeating heads explores how our environments affect our identities and vice versa.
