My piece was inspired by the idea of being caged and/or isolated. My artwork is about society and how people see themselves. Sometimes your thoughts might be broken or mixed up, while the hands represent the feeling of being trapped as well. The different pieces of the face symbolize how we don't always see ourselves the way others do, and how the same thing can look so different in varying perspectives. I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone with this piece, so I used entirely colored pencils which I normally don't use often. I kept the colors warm to create a contrast with the dark background and to emphasize important features on my face.
