You'd Be Proud is a thrown ceramic vessel exploring the nuances of death and our connection to nature. The capsule-like, thrown vessel envelops all my childhood memories before my grandmother's death, while the branch puncturing the clay takes the physical form of the damage the loss caused. The imagery, done in a loose, child-like style, are childhood photos of my family. The natural branch parallels both the stunning and violent aspects of nature to my experience with the death of a guardian. Clay is known to hold memories, and vessels are inherently known for holding items, influencing my decision to throw the form instead of hand-build. Formally, I chose to keep the organic color of the clay to emulate the raw, natural qualities of the materials, aligning with the raw emotions of loss and grief.
