My work features a person with their back turned to a gothic window, inside an otherwise plain room. It represents the feeling of being trapped in loneliness and subconscious isolation while watching your peers enjoy company. It also dives into the feeling of being lonely even in a crowd, represented by being turned away from the outreach of the light. I was inspired by Gothic architecture and different patterns of light, especially how they could light up a dark room on an early morning as the sun is just rising. I used white and black pencils on a toned paper, with a wax pencil for blending.
