For my piece, I drew an image of myself observing the tennis courts at a tournament in Kiawah. I was inspired by the contrast of sunlight streaming through the trees, which created a moment of reflection and stillness amid the intensity of the competition. I worked in white Prismacolor on black paper, using reverse shading to capture the sharp highlights and shadows of this scene, evoking the feeling of a flashbulb memory. Through this approach, I aimed to communicate the complex emotions of contemplation, stress, and focus that nearly every athlete experiences. My goal was to emphasize the anticipation, preparation, and behind-the-scenes planning that occur before a match-moments often invisible to spectators but essential to performance.
