My artwork was a class assignment with the prompt "metamorphosis." I was inspired by hares and the virus Shope Papilloma that is common within them, which is also the origin of Jackalope mythology. I used oil pastels in unnatural colors to draw and render the jackalope, and I used layering as well as scraping to create varied detail and sharp forms. All of the horn-like forms in the background were built up with a palette knife out of a gel medium and paint mix, all on top of a base layer. The main meaning of my work is to show how the jackalope came to be.
