In the past year, I have tried to learn more about my heritage. Not for the people who ridiculed me, but for myself. I have learned that I have always been "Mexican" enough. The three girls in the picture are me, because being Mexican isn't just one perspective, but multiple. That is why we have the three colors. Green, white, and red. Green meaning hope, which has white roses because in my culture roses are known for the Virgin Mary. White represents the religion and unity we have as people. I chose a rosary to represent Catholicism and the unity that us Catholics have to God and each other as brothers and sisters. And lastly, the red and marigolds are for the people who fought for our freedom and independence. Marigolds are the flowers for the dead to show them that we remember and care for them and what they did. I believe that as Mexicans, we shouldn't separate ourselves based on skin color or where we came from. Now is not the time to separate, but to stand as one.
