For my artwork, I created a composition in which I paired some of my black and white photographs alongside of some found photographs and postcards. The images work together in conversation, creating a narrative both real and fictitious. The images depict not a singular set narrative, but rather creates the possibility for narrative, allowing the viewers to create their own meaning. I selected found photographs that held a certain similarity to my own documentary photography, highlighting the timelessness and universality of the present themes. I was inspired by natural spaces and how they can make us feel small and insignificant, in the presence of vast mountainous landscapes we are reminded of how small we are. To me personally, this artwork suggests a message concerning themes of comfort and escape. It suggests a search for belonging, an escape from external pressure, and a renouncement of false comfort by finding meaning in our meaningless.
