Charlotte, NC
I am an artist, live figure model, and art teacher born and raised in Worcester, MA. I currently reside in Charlotte, NC where I have been part of the local art community for the past 14 years. My work has taken many forms over the years including figure drawing, painting, clay, sculpture, stained glass, mixed media, collage and assemblage, most recently focusing on recycled materials and assemblage. Initially becoming a live figure model in 2001, I was inspired by modeling for other artists to learn and grow as a self-taught artist. I found that I loved being immersed in the classroom atmosphere and collaborating with other like-minded creative artists. Through my teaching experience at the Charlotte Art League, Braitman Studios and C3Lab in Charlotte, NC, I began to approach my art very differently in 2006. I entered my work in various juried art shows and galleries in Charlotte. I learned to use different techniques and push my work in new directions. I began to explore the relationships between color and abstract forms using recycled toys. Over the years, I have expanded my audience by showing at the McColl Center for Art and Innovation, Lark and Key, Red Sky, Gallery 22 and select silent auctions such as Art with Heart. I also currently facilitate figure-drawing classes at the Charlotte Art League and regularly organize various hands-on art events such as Figured Out Life drawing, and the Charlotte portrait society, and the Exquisite Corpse drawing experience. My new body of work has allowed me to use my art as a catalyst to connect and expand with the community by getting them interested in not only the aesthetics, but also the environmental aspects as well.
