The work reflects back on living through a pandemic, and the absence caused. Textiles were manufactured in Belgium, China, England, France, India, Italy, Turkey, & the U.S., speaking to the global reach of the virus, and our collective approach to hindering its spread. The clustering forms reference our prolonged state of confinement (suspended in time); individually isolating yet collectively existing within this unfathomable new reality. The title of the work and its forms allude to COVID-19 aerosol droplets, and outdoor, condensed water vapor clouds, both of which are suspended in air. These make connections between the fear of a virus made up of particles, too small to be seen, with the joy of an expansive skyscape - the outdoors being a way to escape our protective enclosures while safely engaging with others at a distance. Clustering forms are close in proximity, yet never physically interact; everyone in seclusion, living in their own bubble & carefully navigating surroundings.
