I am a contemporary visual artist from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia who currently lives in Charlotte, NC. I am deeply interested in melding my two passions together-painting and studying the traditional music of the United States. During the pandemic, I became interested in learning to play the banjo, which has a complicated past that also reflects the history of the United States.
I am profoundly inspired by this rich and complex history of the banjo and its role in traditional American music, both of which carry stories of resilience, creativity and shared experiences of diverse cultures. My paintings interpret these songs and this particular style of traditional music. Through my art, I hope to bridge the past and the present, inviting viewers to explore the emotions, stories and shared history hidden within the banjo's strings. It is my intention to explore the old and the new, the tangible and the abstract, and the threads that connect us all.
