My name is Coleman and I am a 27 year-old, self-taught artist born and raised in Charlotte, NC. I paint big portraits. And I often spend months on them. Partly because the intricate, message laced scenes demand it. But also because I need time to think. I am enraptured by the mutual exchange occurs when someone is meaningfully impacted by art. Each artist leaves a part of themselves behind within their work that is met by the audience who is carrying along their perspective, dispositions, and experience. And each synthesis between art and audience is unique to not only the individual, but the state of the individual in eye of the moment of that experience. However, that symbiosis demands honest introspection from both the artist and the beholder. Art is a mirror - positioned across from ourselves. The better we see ourselves, the better we see art.







As I chip David from marble with chisel and hammer, the dust of my own facade collects at my feet as I too am released from the stone.
