My name is David Seth Cyfers. I am a resident of Huntington, West Virginia. I received a
BFA from Marshall University School of Visual Art in 2007 with a dual-emphasis in
Graphic Design and Printmaking. I have been working as a self-employed designer for
over a decade.
The most recent work consists of four paintings that explore my love for nature and our
Appalachian landscape. I am submitting one of those four paintings in the series for this juried exhibit. These paintings depict a scene of a passing thunderstorm
illuminating a virgin highland forest at night. My goal was to create an Appalachian scene that related loosely to the style of French folk painter, Henri Rousseau. Many queues were also derived from American painter, David Hockney. I worked on these panels slowly throughout 2024 into
2025. The process of creating this series taught me to have greater patience while
elevating my confidence in the abilities I have as a more traditional painter.
