Within the work, I use hand-drawn pixelation to describe memory, depict decay, and to obscure for the purpose of creating ambiguity. As an artist who has lived simultaneously in both the rural Southeast and the digital landscape, I see similarities between low-resolution images and the many forgotten buildings that inhabit my hometown and the surrounding area. Within this work, the image of an isolated and dilapidated building is paired with a text-based drawing that gives additional context to the landscape which is presented. Through my selective use of pixelation within both drawings, I craft a narrative that both suggests a specific place and events, but also allows viewers to fill in the gaps of the story based on their own lived experiences.
