"Pink Lemonade" is a weaving created in Korat, Thailand while I was the Artist-in Residence at the Jim Thompson Art Center's Art on the Farm festival. The rainbow-ombre textile is made entirely from recycled materials, including over a 100 pieces of fabric from the Jim Thompson Silk Factory. The work also incorporates locally sourced post-consumer waste, including plastic bags, product wrappers and labels, old clothes, housewares, and decorations, some of which were collected from an environmental clean-up of the Mekong River. This work is meant to be both aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking-at first glance it appears like a traditional textile, but closer inspection reveals its innovative use of trash. On the last day of the residency, the weaving was cut from the loom and 30 people participated in a performance art piece carrying the weaving through the farm's rice and flower fields, accompanied by a traditional Isan Molam band as a celebration of the end of the festival.
