Andi Steele's interactive sculptures focus on social and spatial relationships. She is interested in what happens at the intersection of personal and shared space.
Steele works with a variety of materials from recycled fiber to forged steel. She chooses the material based on the interaction, and the visceral associations we have with materials that affect the visual and conceptual understanding of the work.
Steele has exhibited for over 25 years, most recently at Women House Amsterdam, NDSMFuse (NL), Sovereign, McColl Center (NC), Inquestigation: Women at the Intersections of Art+Science, Monmouth Museum (NJ), and The Best of Women, Stola Contemporary Gallery (IL).
Steele received a BFA from the University of South Carolina (1994), was a Core Fellow at Penland School of Craft (1998-2000), and earned her MFA in sculpture at the University of Georgia (2004). She is a Professor of Sculpture and Chair of the Dept of Art & Art History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
