I first learned to sew at the knee of my grandmother. That knowledge sat dormant, popping out in my teen years to make the occasional pillow or simple blanket. I grew up to become an art teacher and would teach my middle school students how to sew simple little pillows or mug rugs. In the summer of 2021, I woke up inspired to make a quilt - king-sized, all by hand, my design, dyed indigo. Six months later, I was sleeping comfortably under my quilt! That quilt led to others; one for my son, then my daughter. I took a machine piecing workshop to gain a better understanding of the quilt structure, but mostly stick to hand-quilting all of my creations. My newest quilt was inspired by a pattern by Jamie Bright, but I expanded upon it, ultimately creating Luminous River. I was born and raised in Vicksburg, MS, and I have that muddy Mississippi river in my veins! This quilt pays homage to that river, blue for Louisiana, and red representing the Red Carpet State.
