The work, "Striped Pot,” is an attempt to create successful, realistic value using a less conventional medium. The white charcoal presented a challenge when it came to creating mid-tones on the paper. As I was building the tones in the work, I found that adding black charcoal helped to unify the shadows with the lighter values to effectively capture the depth in the still life.
