This piece is about sharing of suffering, whether inadvertently or on purpose, and the pain or regret that can follow afterward. And how, often, that consequence might hurt worse than the initial feeling. For example, you may catch a cold that isn't so bad for you, but then spread it to someone who it affects way worse. This analogy is similar to my piece's background. In my artwork, an illness was spread, causing someone dear to be lost. While it was purposeful initially, deep sadness followed for the perpetrator. When I made this work, I wanted to try new things with line art and push my limits with watercolor. I'd been enjoying thin, detailed linework so much, and really wanted to try it and see what I could do. But, I specifically wanted to make it with watercolor, so I decided I'd try making a large watercolor piece. I ended up having a lot of fun, and enjoyed coloring the details so much. It was super enjoyable to make, and the thoughts behind it are still deeply important to me.
