Over the past three decades since the internet was first introduced to the masses, this new form of technology has profoundly impacted the cognitive development of the ensuing generation, my generation. Quietly waiting for us within the reaches of Pandora’s box was an invention with the potential to bridge continents and connect the world more than ever. I’m afraid this is only a partial truth. As a member of “Gen Z”, born into this age of machines, I can personally attest to the increased role technology plays in my daily life and to the thrall it has over my peers and me; the nights I find myself doom-scrolling at 3 am, completely apathetic to the toll this abuse is taking on my mind and body is evidence of this. When I set out to create this artwork I aimed to portray that inward reliance on technology physically in the form of an amalgamation of wire circuitry and flesh the result is “peculiar” to say the least.
